2017 Memorial Day Weekend – Things to do and Places to Avoid

Somehow the school year has flown by and another hot summer is most likely in store for residents of Memphis and the Mid-South. To kick off the beginning of summer we know thousands of Memphians will be hitting the road or looking for local activities to take part in over the 2017 Memorial Day weekend.

Choose901.com has published a great list of events taking place all weekend, including The Great American River Run and the Summer Symphony at the Live Garden. Another fun weekend attraction to close out Memphis in May is 901Fest, which helps to promote local artists and vendors.

Without question, there is something for everyone to do this Memorial Day weekend, but above all is we ask that everyone remain safe. With an increase in people comes a drastic rise in auto accidents and police enforcement for driving related offenses.

If you do venture out this weekend be aware that the Memphis Police Department will be out in full force arresting those suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs. Additional concerns that come up every holiday weekend are sobriety checkpoints throughout the Mid-South looking for people driving under the influence. As we wrote about in an earlier post, a DUI can have long-term and devastating consequences. It is always best to call UBER, LYFT or a local taxicab, which I can assure is a safe and much cheaper alternative to a DUI conviction.

Last May in our blog we addressed the inevitable increase in traffic that presents a rise in auto, motorcycle, bicycle and pedestrian accidents. If you are in an auto accident read here to help you avoid common mistakes following an automobile accident. As we have previously discussed, the increase in foot traffic for Overton Square, Downtown Memphis and Cooper-Young has presented more injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists. To catch up on our previous discussions related to pedestrian injuries, read here or to read more about bicyclists injury claims, read here.
