As you may already know, the e-cigarette business is a multi-billion dollar industry with an astounding number of new users reported every year. With these personal vaporizers being touted as a safer and more acceptable form of smoking this upward trend in their business will likely continue.
E-Cigarettes are a Product Liability
E-cigarettes are an electronic nicotine delivery device that is powered by a lithium, rechargeable battery. What the e-cigarette manufacturers don’t want the average consumer to know is that their devices pose a significant risk to consumers.
There have been instances where an e-cigarette blew up near a consumers face and where the e-cigarette caught fire inside a vehicle as it was being charged, resulting in severe burns to the victim.
There has also been cases where an e-cigarette actually exploded inside a victims pocket causing substantial injuries. These are just a few examples of the faulty products being designed and manufactured by the E-cigarette companies.
Some of the reported personal injuries include:
- Permanent scarring from severe burns
- Facial lacerations
- Facial fractures
- Severe injuries and broken bones to neck and back
One of the main reasons the manufacturers have been putting dangerous products into the hands of consumers is because to date their business is fairly unregulated.
The FDA is still evaluating e-cigarettes for effectiveness and safety. Until something is done to require safe and regulated manufacturing of these devices they will keep being sold as they are today. That is to say, a product that can cause irreparable harm to the consumer due to no fault of his/her own.
