Last September, we wrote about the physical injuries people have sustained when e-cigarette devices explode. It’s just a few months later, and consumers and doctors around the country are tragically learning that the use of e-cigarettes and vaping may be the cause of serious lung issues. In fact, www.Sciencealert.com reports that a sixth person has died as of September 11, 2019 of serious lung disease, possibly related to vaping.
Sudden Outbreak of Lung-Related Conditions
The sudden outbreak of lung-related conditions and deaths has prompted the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to issue an investigative warning about vaping and e-cigarette use related to a multistate pulmonary disease outbreak. As noted in the report, the CDC has seen approximately 450 cases of lung illness related to e-cigarette use.
Common Symptoms of Illness Related to Vaping
The CDC lists some of the common symptoms related to this sudden lung related illness, including:
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Persistent cough
The CDC recommends that if you have concerns about your health, please seek immediate medical attention or contact your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
JUUL in the News
E-cigarette maker JUUL was in the news this week when the FDA accused the maker of illegally marketing the product as being a safe alternative to cigarettes. As noted in a report on www.CNBC.com, if JUUL does not change their marketing, they will be subject to fines and/or seizure of the product.
The Bottom Line
With every passing day, consumers are realizing that the use of e-cigarettes and vaping is extremely dangerous. I’m afraid this may only be the beginning of pulmonary and lung-related illnesses that have ties to the use of e-cigarettes and vaping. E-cigarettes have been in the stream of commerce long enough that if they are proven to be harmful, many health-related cases will be sure to follow.
