The legal system has again come to a halt during the Covid-19 pandemic as officials announced last week that Memphis City Courts at 201 Poplar will be temporarily closed. The City Court system handles most traffic citations, parking violations, and other driving-related offenses issued by The Memphis and Shelby County Police Department. The closing of the local Memphis City Courts follows a recent directive that has also halted all jury trials.
What Comes Next
We are unsure when normal scheduling will return. However, if you have a pending traffic matter you can obtain information through the following resources:
- If your ticket is scheduled in Divisions 1, 2, or 3 of Memphis City Court you can call the following numbers to obtain a new court setting.
- You may also email each specific Division of court to show proof of compliance for tickets related to registration, driver’s license, or insurance matters.
Some matters will be handled without a personal court appearance, while other cases will be reset to a later date to be handled in person. Tickets issued for speeding and other moving violations can put points on your Tennessee driver’s license, sometimes resulting in a suspension or increase in your insurance rates.
