VA Disability Claims – What to Know

The Chiozza Law Firm believes that serving in the armed forces represents one of the greater things an individual can do for his or country. Unfortunately, our veterans are often treated unfairly and denied benefits or quality medical treatment and care following his or her discharge from the armed forces.

As we have previously written, VA malpractice claims have been on the rise and require the assistance of a qualified attorney. On a similar note, VA disability claims have also increased, but with that so have denied disability claims.

Veterans disability claims exist for veterans who sustained a disability while in service for his or her respective military branch. Some of the more common physical and mental injuries typically related to military service are as follows:

  • Depression
  • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Amputation
  • Gulf War Syndrome
  • Spinal Cord injuries
  • Hearing loss related injuries
  • Brain trauma injuries

Filing a VA Disability Claim in Tennessee

There are many other injuries that can be covered under VA disability claims. To begin the process of filing for disability, one needs to file paperwork at the local Tennessee VA office.

Then, the VA office will either deny or allow your claim. If you believe the VA office’s decision is incorrect, you can file an appeal.  To file an appeal, we recommend you hire an experienced attorney on your behalf to allow for a timely and fair review.

We truly sympathize with all the veterans who proudly serve our country and subsequently face an uphill battle regarding both medical treatment and disability claims.
